BOE NUMERICAL QUESTIONS

QUESTION:- In an APH, Gas inlet flow is 31kg/s with 3.5% oxygen in the outlet the oxygen content increases to 4.2% . Find the leakage quantity of air and also find the increases in ID fan load % due to the leakage. (Andhra Pradesh BOE-2013)

SOLUTION:

Percentage Excess air = (O2 x 100) / (21-O2)

Excess air in percentage in flue gas at 3.5 % oxygen = (3.5 x100) / (21-3.5) ×100 = 20% ——-(1)

Excess air in percentage in flue gas at 4.2 % oxygen = (4.2 x100) / (21-4.2) ×100 = 25% ——-(2)

Increment of excess air in percentage = Eq(2) – Eq(1) = 25 -20 = 5%

So leakage quantity = (% Increment of excess air) × (Gas inlet flow) = 0.05 x 31= 1.55kg/s

Increase in ID fan loading % = (Leakage quantity) x 100 / (Gas inlet flow) = (1.55 x100)/ 31 = 5%
